Riverwest Grown
If you are looking for a place to buy plants, artwork, and other curiosities, look no further than Riverwest Grown, a plant shop located in the heart of the Riverwest neighborhood in Milwaukee. Riverwest Grown is not your typical plant nursery. It is a place where you can find a wide variety of plants in unique and upcycled pots, as well as products from local artists and craftspeople.
Riverwest Grown was opened in November of 2022 by Nick, a plant enthusiast who has a keen eye for finding, creating, and repurposing pots for his plants. He started his business by growing plants from seeds and clippings in his own backyard, and selling them in plain, black plastic pots. But he soon realized that his customers wanted something more. They wanted pots that were original, eco-friendly, and affordable. So he began to collect and transform old pots, cans, jars, and other items into creative and colorful containers for his plants.
“People were really liking that. Especially the people of Riverwest, because that’s exactly what they want. It was unique, and it was reused, and it was affordable,” Nick said.
Nick is also committed to offering his customers a truly Riverwest-grown experience by selling plants that are nurtured here in Milwaukee, rather than sourced from a distributor. He prefers to grow his own plants from seeds or clippings, rather than buying them wholesale and selling them retail. He said that this way, he can ensure the quality and variety of his plants, as well as keep his prices low.
In addition to Nick’s plants, Riverwest Grown also carries products from approximately 10 local artisans. Among the offerings are plant hooks hand-made by a blacksmith, macrame for hanging plants, botanical-themed soaps, handmade greeting cards, ceramic pots, healing stones, and a wide variety of apparel. Nick said that he wanted to include a variety of products at the store in order to attract a wider audience, as well as support local artists who may not be able to pay the commission in order to sell at larger stores throughout the city.
“I want people to know that if they come here, they could find something unique and different,” he said. “And a lot of the artists, their products won’t be available at other stores.”
Riverwest Grown is more than just a plant shop. It is a place where you can discover new and interesting things, support local businesses, and enjoy the beauty and diversity of nature. Come and visit Riverwest Grown today, and see for yourself what makes it a plant shop with a twist.
Meet the Owner
Meet Nick Reuland, the owner of Riverwest Grown.
Nick Reuland is a plant lover and enthusiast who turned his passion into a business. His background began with selling tomato plants and spider plants from his front yard, and soon expanded to farmer’s markets and other venues. His customers loved his plants and his friendly service, and he decided to open a brick and mortar shop in Riverwest, in a former photography studio.
Nick has been growing plants since he was a teenager, when he had to weed his family’s garden in Lake Geneva as a chore. He also had his own plot of land where he could grow whatever he wanted. He has always filled his living spaces with a variety of plants, and he enjoys sharing his knowledge and expertise with others.
Nick and his staff are always happy to help you find the perfect plant for your home or office, or to answer any questions you may have.
Come and visit us today, and see why Nick’s motto is “No matter where I live, it’s always full of plants.”
